The draft bill for the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution has been officially published via Extraordinary Gazette.
According to the gazette notification, the amendment includes key provisions regarding the revision of the retirement age for judges.
The retirement age of a Supreme Court Judge has been revised to 67 years, while the retirement age of a Court of Appeal Judge has been set at 65 years.
Additionally, the notification specifies that the retirement date of the Chief Justice shall be whichever occurs earlier: the date on which they reach 67 years of age or the completion of a 6-year tenure from the date of appointment as Chief Justice.
Furthermore, the amendment replaces the existing limit of 19 Court of Appeal judges, increasing the total number of judges to 24.
