Tension at Kuruwita Prison Brought Under Control

Measures have been taken to contain a unrest situation that broke out at the Kuruwita Prison, following similar incidents reported at the Magazine Prison in Borella last night (06).

During the unrest at Kuruwita Prison, four inmates sustained injuries and were subsequently admitted to the hospital.

Police stated that tear gas was used to disperse the inmates and bring the situation under control.

Although the initial disturbance late last night was subdued, fresh tension flared up among inmates again this morning (07).

Reports indicate that a group of inmates also caused damage to the prison hospital property during the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the situation has since been fully contained and brought under control.
