Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (04) ordered the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to present a progress report on October 20 regarding the ongoing investigations into corruption charges against former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.
The directive was issued when the case was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.
During the proceedings, the Bribery Commission submitted a report outlining the status of the investigation conducted so far.
President’s Counsel Anil Silva, appearing on behalf of the former minister, requested the court to allow his client to retain his passport—which is currently released on bail—in order to obtain visas for travel to Germany and Dubai.
Accordingly, the court granted permission for the suspect to retain the relevant passport under the previously imposed bail conditions.
Following the submissions, Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered the Bribery Commission to submit a comprehensive report detailing the further progress of the investigation on October 20.
