The Court of Appeal yesterday (04) ordered the retrial of seven corruption cases filed against former Minister Johnston Fernando.
Reports indicate that the Court of Appeal issued this ruling regarding seven cases in which Fernando had previously been acquitted on technical grounds and various other legal considerations.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Minister of Trade Vasantha Samarasinghe and Deputy Minister Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala confirmed that the court had decided to reopen and re-examine these seven cases.
The order was delivered by a five-judge bench of the Court of Appeal, chaired by Justice P. Kumararatnam.
