Further hearing of the case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act was conducted today (24) before the Colombo High Court.
When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga, Yoshitha Rajapaksa was absent. President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis, appearing on his behalf, informed the court that his client was indisposed due to illness and requested a new date for the hearing.
Taking the submissions into consideration, the High Court Judge ordered the case to be recalled on August 20. The judge also directed that witnesses, including Navy officers, must appear in court on that date to present their evidence.
The Attorney General filed this case against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, alleging that he breached the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by unlawfully acquiring five land plots valued at over Rs. 73 million in the Dehiwala and Rathmalana areas.
