The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has purchased 5,390 metric tons of paddy during the nearly two weeks since the commencement of paddy procurement for the current Yala season.
According to Deputy General Manager (Operations) Saman Palitha Bandara, the highest volume of paddy has been procured from the Ampara District, accounting for 3,148 metric tons.
In addition, 567 metric tons of paddy have been purchased from the Anuradhapura District, and 620 metric tons from the Vavuniya District.
The Deputy General Manager further stated that the PMB plans to open additional storage centers based on upcoming harvesting progress, with a total of 148 islandwide storehouses designated for paddy procurement this season.
