Former Chief Secretary of the Southern Province, Rannulu Chandrasiri de Zoysa, was arrested today (24) by investigative officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with corruption charges.
The arrest pertains to a 2019 initiative by the Southern Province Development Authority, which utilized Rs. 16.5 million from Southern Provincial Council member funds to distribute chairs to public voluntary organizations across the Southern Province.
He is accused of bypassing prescribed state procurement guidelines to select a specific manufacturing firm, thereby bestowing an undue advantage on that company and causing a financial loss to the state.
The arrested former Chief Secretary is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
