Former State Minister Shantha Bandara’s Son Remanded Over Rs. 20 Million Robbery

Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (23) ordered that the son of former State Minister Shantha Bandara be remanded in custody until the 27th.

The suspect was produced before the court after being held and interrogated under a 24-hour detention order by the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau in connection with the robbery of Rs. 20 million (2-crore) belonging to a Chinese national.

Presenting facts before the court, investigating officers stated that further investigations are being conducted into the suspect’s phone records, bank statements, and potential previous transactions involving cryptocurrency.

Following an identification parade held in the Magistrate’s chambers today, the second witness in the case, Asanga Sanjeewa, positively identified the first suspect, identified as Ajith Priyantha.

Investigating officers further informed the court that another suspect involved in the incident is yet to be arrested and that steps are being taken to locate and seize the vehicle used in the crime.
