A Revenue Inspector attached to a sub-office of the Kotikawatta – Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on bribery charges.
According to the complaint, officers of the Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha had inspected the complainant’s residence—which was purchased in 2018 and occupied since—and notified that assessment taxes (waripanam) needed to be paid separately for the upper and lower floors of the house. Following this notice, the complainant had submitted the required documents as requested by the officials.
Subsequently, the suspect Revenue Inspector had visited and inspected the property, informing the resident that there was an issue with the plan and the assessment of the house. The official had then demanded a bribe of Rs. 25,000 to resolve the issue smoothly and to facilitate the payment of assessment taxes under the complainant’s name.
The suspect was arrested by Bribery Commission officers while accepting the bribe and is scheduled to be produced before court.
