Son of Former State Minister Shantha Bandara Produced in Court Over Rs. 20 Million Heist

The son of former State Minister Shantha Bandara, who was arrested in connection with the robbery of Rs. 20 million from a Chinese national, is scheduled to be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (22).

The suspect was arrested yesterday (21) by the Kollupitiya Police following investigations into the incident.

According to police, on July 13, two individuals posing as police officers intercepted a car carrying a Chinese national. The suspect and his accomplice opened the vehicle doors, displayed a pair of handcuffs, and inspected the victim’s passport and vehicle.

During the search, the suspects forcibly took a bag containing nearly Rs. 20 million (2 Crores) from the car before fleeing the scene. Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Kollupitiya Police.
