Shani to investigate Easter attack & several other crimes

It has been decided to resume investigations of a number of crimes that were suppressed due to political influence in the past period, including the Easter attack investigation under Shani Abeysekera, a former Senior Superintendent of Police who has now been appointed the new director of the Central Criminal Intelligence Analysis Bureau.
Acting IGP lawyer Priyantha Weerasuriya says these criminal investigations are being carried out under a separate committee headed by Shani.
It is said that the officers who have investigated the crimes before, as well as the new officers, will be contacted for the investigation regarding the controversial criminal cases that were suppressed due to political influence.
In addition to the Easter attacks, the killing of Lasantha Wickramatunga and Thajudeen, the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, the kidnapping of 11 youths, including school students and their disappearance, the MiG deal, the central bank bond incident and many other crimes are to be re-investigated.
