Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith questions how to confidently deal with a government that does not even care two pence about the law.
He held a press conference regarding the Easter Sunday attack.
He further said, “What they do for this, too, is patch up here and there, then hide it under the carpet. I have been telling the story of this carpet for years. It is the reality of our country. They do not like to be honest when being hurt.
The President who had already promised us about this attack and did not fulfil any of those promises had to go home. In this way, if someone tries to suppress the truth by underestimating the lives of these 272 and allowing them to be destroyed in this way, the same thing will happen to them. They should remember that.
Some people are in bed forever. These people who used to walk well and did everything with their own strength are in beds or wheelchairs today. Why were these people put in that situation?
There was enough time to prevent this. A message was given that morning. That was on the 21st morning. They did not even care. If they had given us at least one phone call, we would have closed the churches. But we didn’t know. They knew it two hours ago. It was said one more time. But it didn’t matter. Only one officer has been held to be fully responsible for this. But this government still keeps that officer in that position. How can we deal with a government that doesn’t even care about the law when doing this?”
