Professor Wasantha Athukorala of the Department of Economics and Statistics of the University of Peradeniya emphasizes that despite the fact that the country seems to be in a certain optimistic situation today, but it has happened under the condition of non-payment of the country’s debt and It is now more than 06 years behind the national economy.
He has mentioned this in a post on his facebook, adding greetings for the Sinhala Hindu New Year.
Prof. Athukoala says, “Wishing you all a very Happy New Year…. Nevertheless, if we look at the economic data for 2022, we are six years behind. It means the real GDP of our country in 2022 was Rs 12018 billion. Oh my God, in 2016, it was Rs 12151 billion! Haven’t we gone back more than six years? However, there are no queues. You get the gas. There is electricity. Thee is also fertilizer. Everything is fine now. They take back what you had received, and when the same is given back…..the giver becomes a hero.
It also states, “We don’t realize that they are the ones who denied us all that. Now. They are trying to send our monkeys abroad. There are many who think like that. However, this is not 2016. What the rulers did before 2022 was to manage the country with loans and settling the loans. But now they are doing it by taking loans. Stop repaying loan to manage the country. You can be happy… but… your children will definitely lose their way. if you don’t mind, I don’t mind either… There are many things I don’t understand… I will keep quiet because you understand….”
