A survey conducted by the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Training and Research Institute has revealed that due to the ban on the use of chemical fertilizers, the yield per acre of the 2021 season has decreased by 53%.
In addition, due to the ban on chemical fertilizers, potato and big onion yields have decreased by 52% and maize yields have decreased by 68%. Chili yield has also dropped by 43%. Also, in the 2021 season, vegetable cultivation has collapsed by 57% due to the ban on chemical fertilizers.
It wa pointed out by relevant academics, researchers as well as members of the National People’s Power (NPP) had continuously emphasized that due to the overnight ban on chemical fertilizers, agriculture in this country would collapse.
