The National Assembly appointed by the government led by Ranil Wickramasinghe without a people’s mandate is an unrealistic and dishonest arrangement based on the desire to show off to the international and national level, says the leader of the National People’s Power, Anura Dissanayake.
Yesterday (20th), he made a strong critical attack while presenting facts in this regard in Parliament. Due to the political instability and economic crisis that arose in the country, he emphasised that the proposal presented and discussed by the opposition was the establishment of an interim government that brought together all the parties for a specific period. He said the opposition’s proposal was the establishment of a national assembly consisting of party leaders to lead the affairs within it.
However, the government has exceeded all the possibilities for a National Assembly and has formed a cabinet headed by the Prime Minister and signed an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, which is not even given to Parliament, said the NPP Leader.
He pointed out that no positive measures to change the existing corrupt political culture to save the country from the current economic crisis can be accomplished by the National Assembly that has been set up.
