Ranil Wickramasinghe is preparing to sell the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation (SLIC) according to the orders given by the IMF to sell government institutions. It is revealed that SLIC earned a profit of 10,000 million rupees in 2021.
The Trade Union alliance of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation has disclosed this information to the media. In 2017, it earned a profit of 4500 million rupees; in 2018, it made a profit of 5200 million rupees, 7000 million in 2019 and 5700 million in 2020. Last year the highest profit was Rs.10000 million.
Unions are warning that they will mount a massive protest against Ranil Wickremesinghe’s arbitrary decision to sell the insurance corporation while it continues to make profits.
