Sunil Madhava, a distinguished journalist, no more!

Sunil Madhava Premathilaka, a unique journalist who took a revolutionary approach to leftist journalism, passed away a short while ago.
He began his media career at Lakehouse in the mid-1960s, pursuing international courses and promoting radical media practice. From the very beginning, he at ‘Divaina’ along with Dayasena Gunasinghe and Edmond Ranasinghe revolutionized the traditional journalism of the country.
With ‘Divaina’ newspaper, he launched a radical media campaign targeting the youth under the name ‘Page 08’.
After Divaina, Sunil Madhava continued his radical media use as editor-in-chief of Lakdiva and Hiru newspapers.
In addition, he has translated several books, including Crying for Literary Freedom, America America, Carolina’s Diary, and Mohamed Ali. The most popular of these was the diary of a truth-seeker. Dayasena Gunasinghe has also created a short story titled ‘Unarmed General’ focusing on the character of Sunil Madhava.
During his studies at Ananda College, Sunil Madhava wrote a screenplay for the film titled Nimwalalla and co-produced it with students, including senior journalist AD Ranjith Kumara.
