A group of backbenchers from the ruling party have asked Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa that the farmers who had joined the SLPP are now frustrated and should be given free fertilizer again.
The request was made during the Local Government Youth Council discussion held at Temple Trees. They also said that all farmers be provided with free fertilizer from the next Yala season.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has stated that what was given to the farmers should be given back, and that urea fertilizer will be provided to farmers from the next Yala season.
However, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa states that since urea fertilizer is a chemical fertilizer, inputs including organic fertilizer will be given to farmers and Sri Lanka will be made the number one country in the world in cultivating organic fertilizer.
