If former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando are not responsible for the failure to prevent the Easter attack, the real culprits responsible for the crime should be brought to justice, says the leader of the National People’s Power (NPP) Colombo District Parliamentarian Anura Dissanayake.
He says there are two groups primarily responsible for the attack, one of which failed to prevent the attack despite being well-informed, and the other group is those who planned and carried out the attack.
Both groups need to be punished equally if justice is to be done to the victims of the Easter attack. Howerver, former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando were acquitted in court on the 18th on charges of failing to carry out their responsibilities as well as failing to prevent attacks. If so, the real culprits who failed to prevent the attack should be brought to justice, emphasized Mr Dissanayake.
He further stated that although the perpetrators of the attack should be brought to justice, it has been nearly three years since the attack, and despite being in power for more than two years, the government has not taken any reasonable action in this regard.
