Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who was arrested last night (03) while in hiding in the Theeniyawala area under an active arrest warrant, is scheduled to be produced before court today (04).
The Court of Appeal had recently issued an open warrant ordering the police to arrest and produce the Thero before court in connection with a contempt of court case for which he was sentenced to imprisonment. In addition, the Court of Appeal had also issued a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country.
While the open warrant remained active, Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero was taken into custody by police last night (03) while hiding at an aranya senasanaya (forest monastery) in Theeniyawala.
Following the arrest, Gnanasara Thero was brought to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) last night for further legal proceedings.
