Police apprehend two suspects in Kosgoda during a special raid, recovering two firearms after an exchange of gunfire.
Police opened fire this afternoon (03) at Kosgoda, Maha Induruwa, targeting two suspects who were allegedly on their way to commit a contract killing.
According to the police, one suspect sustained gunshot injuries and was admitted to the hospital, while the second suspect was taken into custody.
Police sources indicate that a gunman associated with the organized crime figure ‘Loku Patty’ was allegedly attempting to assassinate a member of rival gang leader ‘Karandeniya Suddha’s faction.
During the crackdown, the shooter attempted to flee upon encountering the police and opened fire at the officers. Police responded with gunfire, injuring the suspect before taking him into custody.
The arrest was carried out following a targeted raid by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit based on intelligence received regarding the planned hit. Officers also seized two firearms found in the possession of the suspects.
The incident follows the murder of ‘Podi Patty’—the brother of incarcerated criminal ‘Loku Patty’—who was shot dead on October 01 in the Welikanda area of Ahungalla. The shooter had arrived on foot, opened fire at ‘Podi Patty’, and fled the scene on foot.
Police suspect that the duo targeted in today’s operation belonged to ‘Loku Patty’s faction and were en route to execute a retaliation hit.
