The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Engineers’ Union says that a continuous trade union action has been launched today (25) based on six demands with effect from noon.
Accordingly, the demands of the electrical engineers are
‘Stop informal and illegal New Fortress LNG transaction,
Continue the ongoing LNG tender process,
Suspend the program to divide the Electricity Board into parts,
Suspend amendment to the Electricity Board Act No. 17 of 1969,
Prevent the post of General Manager from being politicized and
Suspend transfer of senior managers.
According to the Electrical Engineers’ Association, they report for duty only from 8.30 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. and report for work outside the scheduled hours only in case of emergencies and breakdowns.
They will also keep away from the Cabinet-appointed Procurement Committee, Technical Committee, Project Committee, Negotiation Committee, Tender Opening Committee and other functions.
The Union states that the trade union action will not support the Chairman of the Electricity Board during the period of trade union action.
They also say that if they do not find a reasonable solution to their grievances, they will extend the trade union action of the first level to the second level and add that in the second stage they would have to keep away from attending to breakdowns and any emergencies.
