The Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, Kamal Gunaratne, held a press conference at the Ministry yesterday (9th) and asked the people not to fall prey to the attempts of some to portray the Easter attack as a conspiracy to bring the President to power.
It is clear that the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, who has been silent in recent times, held a press conference on this occasion to respond to the strong criticisms levelled at the government by the Cardinal and other Catholic priests.
The government’s ‘Dinamina’ newspaper reported that, “Gunaratne had said after the Cardinal made the statement, intelligence and police officials gave a four-hour explanation to the Catholic bishops, and the bishops were satisfied with the explanation. However, unfortunately, the Cardinal did not attend the meeting.”
The newspaper further reported that “Ginarawtne had said that some people were trying to form an opinion that the attack was a conspiracy to bring the President to power and urged the people not to be deceived by false ideologies.
