The total amount of debt accumulated over the decades since the inception of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) until December 31 2020 is Rs. 345500 million.
However, according to an official statement issued by the Presidential Media Unit yesterday (13th), the total debt of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is Rs. 652000 million to the Bank of Ceylon and the People’s Bank alone.
Accordingly, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has obtained a loan of Rs. 300,000 million during the past five months. The government and especially Petroleum Minister Udaya Gammanpila should explain to the people how the total debt in history has increased from Rs. 345,500 million to over Rs. 300,000 in five months.
