JVP General Secretary Meets Senior CPI(M) Leaders Prakash Karat and Brinda Karat

A special meeting was held on July 27 at the People’s Liberation Front (JVP) Head Office between Tilvin Silva, General Secretary of the JVP, and senior leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], Prakash Karat and Brinda Karat.

Bimal Rathnayake, JVP Politburo member and Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development, was also present at the occasion.

Prakash Karat served as the General Secretary of the CPI(M) from 2005 to 2015 and remained a Politburo member until 2025. Following the passing of CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Karat also served as the party’s interim coordinator until April 2025. Brinda Karat served as the General Secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) from 1993 to 2004 and holds the distinction of being the first woman elected to the CPI(M) Politburo.

During the discussion, the leaders deliberated on the JVP and National People’s Power (NPP) coming to power in Sri Lanka, as well as the measures taken to establish financial stability in the country while improving public welfare.

The dialogue also highlighted the government’s direct intervention in increasing the wages of plantation sector workers. Furthermore, discussions focused on establishing good political governance, eradicating corruption, and changing the privilege-based political culture in Sri Lanka.
