According to the Government Medical Officers’ Association, Sri Lanka is on the verge of becoming more dangerous than India in terms of corona infections and deaths.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Dr Naveen de Zoysa, Vice President of the Association, said that Sri Lanka was ahead of India in terms of the number of reported infections and deaths compared to the population. Today, the number of cases reported in India is 80 per million, while in Sri Lanka it is 136 per million, which is one and a half times more than in India.
The severity of this condition can be understood by considering the PCR tests carried out recently.
According to the Ministry of Health, 2715 cases were reported on June 10 and the number of PCR tests carried out on that day was 19828.
Accordingly, the incidence of corona patients is 13.69 percent. That is, every seven PCR tests conducted in Sri Lanka reveals a covid infected person. The revelation comes amid protests from many quarters, including the health sector, over the accuracy of covid data.
