Wilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Member G. Rasika Rathnayake released on bail after being arrested for tampering with an electricity meter to obtain illegal power.
Laggala Magistrate N.S. Jayasuriya has ordered the release of G. Rasika Rathnayake, a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Member of the Wilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha, on a personal bail of LKR 100,000 following her arrest over electricity theft.
The Magistrate also directed the accused to reappear in court on December 18.
Acting on a tip-off received by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), an investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Wilgamuwa Police. CEB officials informed the court that the suspect had been illegally obtaining electricity to her residence in the Perakanatta Yaya 10 area in Wilgamuwa for a prolonged period by using magnets to alter and tamper with the electricity meter.
Furthermore, the court ordered CEB representatives to calculate the total financial loss caused to the Electricity Board and submit the assessment to the court on the next hearing date.
