Strong evidence is currently emerging revealing that a conspiracy was hatched against Gotabaya Rajapaksa to secure the future political leadership of the Rajapaksa family for Namal Rajapaksa.
During the 2019 presidential election, it was revealed that Shiranthi, Mahinda, and other members of the Rajapaksa family initially held a firm stance against nominating Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the candidate. However, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who had entered the active political arena through his Viyathmaga movement, strongly cemented his candidacy in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
After winning the presidential election and securing power in the subsequent parliamentary elections, an internal power struggle was orchestrated against Gotabaya Rajapaksa. This internal conflict within the government was primarily led by Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila, who were widely regarded as political senior figures backing Namal Rajapaksa. Consequently, on March 03, 2022, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa removed both Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila from their ministerial posts. Following their dismissal, both figures publicly declared to the media that they would never engage in politics with the Rajapaksas again.
However, having completely abandoned Gotabaya Rajapaksa, that same group—including Weerawansa and Gammanpila—has now joined hands once again with Namal Rajapaksa.
