Supreme Court Rules Deshabandu and Sriyantha Violated Fundamental Rights

The Supreme Court today (23) ruled that the Fundamental Rights of activist Anuruddha Bandara were violated during his arrest during the ‘GotaGoHome’ protest movement in 2022.

The verdict was delivered following a petition filed by Anuruddha Bandara challenging his illegal arrest and detention during the protests.

The court held former Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon, and then OIC of the Colombo North Special Investigation Unit, Nalin Sriyantha, responsible for the violation of the petitioner’s fundamental rights.
