Nimal Karunaratne, alias “Nalinda,” a United National Party (UNP) member of the Nikaweratiya Pradeshiya Sabha representing the Randenigama ward, has been arrested by the Nikaweratiya Police following a disruptive incident at a local business.
According to the police, the politician had behaved in a rowdy and indecent manner inside a business establishment in the Dalukgolla area of Nikaweratiya. It is alleged that he was heavily intoxicated under the influence of an unspecified substance at the time of the incident.
The arrest was made following a formal complaint lodged by the owner of the business premises, who stated that the Pradeshiya Sabha member had behaved aggressively, caused a public nuisance, and used abusive language.
Following his arrest, the suspect was subjected to a medical examination, which subsequently confirmed that he was heavily under the influence of intoxicants.
The arrested UNP politician is scheduled to be produced before the Nikaweratiya Magistrate’s Court today (18).
