A Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) and two others will remain behind bars until July 7, following a court order issued today in connection with a high-profile bribery investigation.
The trio was arrested on May 23 by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, accused of accepting nearly Rs. 4 million in bribes. The alleged payments were reportedly made by members of the public seeking driving licenses.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali, presiding over the case, extended the remand period after reviewing the evidence submitted by the Bribery Commission.
The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting ongoing concerns over corruption within public institutions. Investigations remain ongoing.
