Arrangements have been made to open the Palali- Achchuweli main road today (01) after three decades on instructions of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake,
This main road was closed due to the thirty years of war, and even though more than 15 years have passed since the war ended, the road was not opened to the general public.
The people of the Northern Province have been making frequent demands regarding the opening of this road. During the discussion held between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Governors on October 22nd, the Governor of the Northern Province, Nagalingam Vaganayagam, also requested the President in this regard.
Accordingly, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has informed the security forces to look into the existing security situation and make arrangements for the public to use it. The Presidential Media Division states that steps were taken to open this road with the intervention of the Ministry of Defense and the Secretary of Defense.
