The Supreme Court has issued notice to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and the Cabinet, ordering them to appear before the court on August 2.
It is to consider the fundamental rights petitions that have been filed requesting that an interim injunction be issued to stop implementing the e-Visa system, as there is a risk of exposing important information related to the country’s national security to the world through it. The petitions also request that the ministerial board issue an order to invalidate the decision taken to implement the said system and withhold the implementation of the relevant decision until the hearing of the petition is completed.
Accordingly, the Supreme Court has ordered that the petition be called on August 2.
The court has further ordered that notices be delivered personally to the ministers directly involved in this incident and to the Cabinet Secretary for delivery to the other ministers.
The petition will be called before Supreme Court Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Arjuna Obeysekera and Achala Vengappuli.
