The Election Commission states that the final decision on whether the local government elections will be held on the 25th of April or not will be taken on the 23rd.
The Chairman of the Election Commission, Advocate Nimal Punchihewa states that the secretaries of all political parties have been summoned to the Election Commission on the 23rd and that the next decision regarding the holding of the election will be taken there.
The Supreme Court has also issued an order to immediately release the money allocated from the budget for holding the election. However, due to the failure of the Treasury to release the money, the upcoming elections have been hampered.
