40 unions to engage in trade union action from today

The Collective of Professionals’ Trade Unions has decided to engage in continuous trade union action from today (9th) against the government’s tax policy and the violation of the voting rights of the general public.
The Collective includes 40 trade unions, including doctors, port, electricity, water and university teachers.
Meanwhile, the members of Health Trade Unions ended at 6.30 am this morning the one-day strike, which started at 6.30 am yesterday (8th).
They went on strike for several reasons, including cuts in wages and allowances. Due to the strike, government hospital operations were also disrupted yesterday.
Last night, military personnel were also seen supporting the activities of the Kandy National Hospital.
