The decision on whether or not to hear the petitions submitted to the Supreme Court regarding the holding of local government elections is to be announced today.
Many stakeholders have submitted these petitions, including civil organizations, civil persons and political parties, demanding an order to prevent the holding of the election as well as an order to hold the election.
Among the intervening petitioners are lawyer Sunil Watagala, a member of the executive committee of the NPP, Eranga Gunasekara, the national organizer of the Socialist Youth Union, and Dr Visakesa Chandrasekara, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo.
