Ranil has no right to obstruct holding the election – Tilvin Silva

“Ranil Wickramasinghe first tried to prevent the announcement of the election. However, the Election Commission had to announce the election. Then he tried to prevent accepting bail for candidates. He presented the details to the cabinet and even issued a circular to the district governors through the secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration to prevent them from accepting bail. Then it had to be withdrawn.
After that, they tried to prevent the announcement of the date for nominations. It also had to be withdrawn. By now, the voting date has been announced as March 9th. Then an Act was passed in the Parliament, and a law was brought to limit local government councillors’ expenses. That law was also an attempt to enforce the postponement of voting.
The Election Commissioner gathered the secretaries of the parties, reached an agreement and enforced the law for this election. Again, a new circular has been issued to government institutions not to work on a credit basis for their work. Many government institutions in our country work on a credit basis. Most of the construction in our country is done on credit. Later cash payments are made. This type of statement was made to prevent the government from doing election activities based on the payment of money later while restricting the payment of money for election activities. It is an anti-democratic attempt. Ranil Wickramasinghe has no right as the President to intervene to prevent the election by making so many conspiracies. He is trying to prevent the local government election for his benefit, for personal difficulties and to cover up the defeat of his political movement. We are asking the people that we must win this election. No matter what the government does to prevent this election, we must win this election. This election should be used purposefully to bring about a strong change in the politics of this country,” said the General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva.
He said this while addressing a press conference of the NPP held at the JVP head office on the 3rd.
Dr Nihal Abeysinghe, General Secretary of NPP and its National Executive Member, Dr Anura Karunathilake were also present for the press conference.
