80% of children in Hambantota are malnourished

In a survey conducted in Suriyawewa Health Division of Hambantota District, it has been revealed that 80% of the children have suffered from malnutrition.
The Alliance of Doctors Unions for Medicine and Civil Rights conducted the survey. Its chairman Dr Chamal Sanjeeva has revealed the relevant information to the media.
During the 12 years of Rajapaksas’ rule, large constructions such as a port, an airport, highways, international conference halls, stadiums, etc., were carried out using foreign loans centring on Hambantota. But since 2017, international organizations such as UNICEF have revealed that the people’s standard of living has not increased through those projects.
Revealing the latest survey reports to the media, Dr Chamal Sanjiwa has emphasized that if proper scientific measures are not taken immediately to eliminate this situation, it will severely affect the children.

During the period the JVP ruled the Tissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha in Hambantota district, they launched special projects on nutrition and education for children’s early childhood development.
