Trincomalee oil tanks: India seeks certification

Top sources say that Sri Lanka should issue an official statement on the proposed joint program on the Trincomalee oil farm project before the Indian government announces the proposed financial assistance package to Sri Lanka next January.
A proposal has been made to store Indian oil in these tanks and supply oil to Sri Lanka when needed. It is said that if this system is followed, fuel will be available in the country at a lower price than at present.
However, the Government of India and the Ministry of Finance of Sri Lanka have agreed on a package of around US $ 1,900 million for next January. It comprises $ 1,000 million in food and medicine, $ 500 million in fuel purchases and $ 400 million in foreign reserves.
