The government has taken measures to hand over land belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force in Slave Island to an Omani company for a mixed project.
The Ministry of Finance has issued a circular to this effect on May 03, 2021, pending the approval of the Cabinet.
Circular No. PED / 1 / CEB / 2/16 has been issued in connection with this mixed project.
The Omani Government investment company also has shown interest in obtaining Urban Development Authority-owned Chalmer’s Granary land in Colombo Fort. According to the media, the UDA has opened out many of its lands for leases–30 to 99 years–to investors and is actively seeking investments. Some of the properties that are to be leased in the Western Province according to the media are the Welikada prison land in Borella; the Tractor Corporation, Agriculture Department, Milco land in Narahenpita, the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, C. W. Mackie PLC, two CWE properties and the People’s Bank Training Centre, all at D. R. Wijewardena Mawatha.
