The statements of the Buddhist priests who played a significant role in bringing the present government to power confirm that they are now divided regarding the Colombo Port City Commission Bill.
Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero strongly stated to the media that all those loyal to this bill are traitors. Also, Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera, Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera and many other Buddhist priests have already taken action against the bill, including making public statements and filing petitions in the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Ven. Prof. Madagoda Abhayatissa Thero and several other Buddhist priests have begun to speak in support of the bill. Medagoda Abhayatissa Thero has said that the bill will not affect the independence of Sri Lanka.
