The Supreme Court has dismissed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed on behalf of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) chief Suresh Sallay, who is currently being held under detention orders.
The petition was submitted under the guise of public interest by Shanta Jayathilaka, a retired Air Force officer. Jayathilaka previously drew public attention when he appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on behalf of Sallay and performed a stunt where he ate rice off the road in the manner of a dog. His action, performed while wearing his Air Force medals, sparked strong public outrage and calls for an investigation into his conduct.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court bench questioned the legal grounds on which the Fundamental Rights petition had been filed. The petition was subsequently dismissed after the petitioner failed to provide a valid legal basis for the application.
