The Court of Appeal today (05) ordered the Commissioner General of Prisons to take necessary measures to execute the remainder of the prison sentence imposed on Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, following his conviction on charges of contempt of court.
Gnanasara Thero, who had been evading court while an open warrant was issued for his arrest, was arrested by police on the night of October 03 while hiding at an Aranya Senasanaya (hermitage) in the Theeniyawala area.
Following his arrest, he was produced in court yesterday (04) and ordered to be presented before the Court of Appeal today.
When the case was taken up today, the bench of judges of the Court of Appeal considered the submissions and directed the prison authorities to enforce the remainder of his sentence accordingly.
