Dr. Nanda Malini, the veteran vocalist who elevated Sri Lankan music literature to unprecedented heights, passed away today.
Her final rites will be performed today (22) at 5:00 PM at the Borella General Cemetery without any ceremonial speeches, reflecting her wishes.
Throughout her life, Dr. Nanda Malini maintained a steadfast stance on life as well as death, famously performing songs such as “Maranya Sundarai Sathya Vetha Namunu” (Death is Beautiful, Inclined Towards Truth).
The song was penned by poet Nandana Weerasinghe in tribute to Kamalabandu—a revolutionary who fearlessly embraced death despite enduring brutal torture during the 1971 uprising—and dedicated to thousands of brave revolutionaries like him.
