Complaint Lodged with Bribery Commission Against Former Minister Daya Gamage

The Samurdhi Trade Union Collective today (24) filed a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against former Minister and senior Vice President of the United National Party (UNP), Daya Gamage.

The complaint alleges that Gamage caused a financial loss of nearly LKR 500 million to the Samurdhi Development Department around 2019.

Speaking to the media following the submission, Somasiri Liyanage, President of the Samurdhi Trade Union Collective, highlighted significant financial irregularities during the former administration:

“Financial fraud has taken place within the Samurdhi Development Department. During Ranil Wickremesinghe’s tenure as Prime Minister in 2019, Daya Gamage created unauthorized posts and paid millions of rupees in salaries to those appointees. We view this as a serious financial irregularity that was buried over time. We have now handed over all relevant evidence to the Bribery Commission. Furthermore, Daya Gamage misused Samurdhi funds and relief aid for political favors. Sajith Premadasa was also a cabinet minister during this period.”
