A recent audit report has revealed that former Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena obtained 6,122 liters of fuel monthly during 2024, marking a 155% increase compared to his fuel usage in 2022.
The report highlights that such extreme corruption occurred under the protection of Ranil Wickremesinghe following the removal of the corrupt family regime through the peaceful public uprising. According to audit findings, the former Speaker’s average monthly fuel consumption was 3,994 liters in 2023, which surged further to 6,122 liters in 2024.
Additionally, the audit revealed that former Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya obtained 21,299 liters of fuel worth LKR 8,545,037 for a personal vehicle. This fuel allocation was drawn for the personal vehicle in addition to the three official vehicles officially assigned to the Deputy Speaker.
