The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama yesterday (28) that steps will be taken to file indictments in the High Court against former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne over an alleged financial loss exceeding Rs. 26 million caused to the government by awarding a sand dredging project at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour to a Korean company.
The Bribery Commission made these submissions when the case was called through a motion. CIABOC also requested the court to discharge the first suspect in the case, former Chairman of the Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation Upali Liyanage, from the charges.
Representing the commission, CIABOC informed the court that indictments will be filed against the second suspect, Rajitha Senaratne, tomorrow (31) before High Court No. 10 or 11, with only the filing of indictments scheduled for that day.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the Bribery Commission to file the indictments and inform the court accordingly, while discharging the first suspect from the charges.
The case is scheduled to be called again on December 04.
