The Ministry of Health has decided to assign two trained first-aid officers to every Grama Niladhari division to render immediate assistance during medical emergencies. As the initial phase of this initiative, 30 youth per Divisional Secretariat division will be deployed.
This service aims to ensure that individuals affected by accidents or sudden medical conditions receive proper first aid prior to hospitalization, and that they are safely transported to hospitals without incurring further injury. A key highlight of this program is that these first-aid practitioners are recruited on a voluntary basis.
The inauguration ceremony and official training for the first batch under the program, titled “At least two fully trained youth first-aid responders for every Grama Niladhari division,” commenced this morning (30) at the National Youth Services Council premises in Maharagama.
Under the initial phase, 28,000 young men and women will be trained across training centers nationwide. The program is jointly organized by the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Unit of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, alongside the National Youth Services Council under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
