An early morning shooting targeting the home of National People’s Power (NPP) local councilor and attorney-at-law Taraka Nanayakkara has triggered a police investigation in Weligama.
The incident unfolded in Malimbada when two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire at the residence. Police officers stationed at the property returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee the scene.
No injuries were reported. Initial reports suggest the assailants used a pistol-type firearm.
Weligama Police have launched a full investigation, with crime scene experts already at work. CCTV footage is being reviewed and forensic evidence collected as authorities attempt to identify and apprehend the suspects.
