It has been revealed that the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal is using his cabinet ministerial powers to take over all the financial management and bank accounts of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
The Central Bank is in the process of taking over the finances of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation within the next two weeks. It is revealed that Petroleum Minister Udaya Gammanpila is strongly opposed to this move, but Ajith Nivard Cabraal is exercising his arbitrary power despite the protests.
The Petroleum Corporation is a company that earns over Rs. 2 billion daily. Also, the Petroleum Corporation is the only public or private sector entity in the country with daily revenue of over Rs. 2 billion. It is further revealed that several cabinet ministers are in an unspoken protest against the move of the Governor of the Central Bank of disregarding the Minister in charge of the Petroleum Corporation.
